Silchar Medical College and Hospital

Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) is a government-run medical college and hospital located in Silchar, Assam. It was established in 1968 as the second medical college in Assam after Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. The college is affiliated to Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS) and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

The college offers undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD/MS), diploma and postdoctoral (DM/MCh) courses in various medical disciplines, such as anatomy, biochemistry, community medicine, dentistry, dermatology, ENT, forensic medicine, microbiology, orthopedics, pediatrics, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, psychiatry, radiology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, surgery and others. The admission to all the courses is based on the performance of the candidates in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The college has an annual intake capacity of 100 MBBS students, 75 nursing students and 150 postgraduate students.

The college has a well-equipped campus with laboratories, lecture theatres, library, cafeteria, ATM and other facilities. The college also has a sports complex, a gymnasium and a cultural centre for the students. The college is attached to the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GBP Hospital), which is a 806-bedded teaching hospital that provides OPD and emergency services to the patients. The hospital has state-of-the-art amenities and facilities such as laboratories, operation theatres, intensive care units, blood bank, radiology and pharmacy. The college also has a research unit under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which conducts various projects on health issues relevant to the region.
