RIMS Imphal is a public medical college and hospital in Imphal, Manipur. It was established in 1972 as a postgraduate medical institution like AIIMS, New Delhi and PGIMER, Chandigarh¹. It is an institution of regional importance catering to the needs of the North Eastern Region in the field of imparting undergraduate and postgraduate medical education². The institute is affiliated to Manipur University and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The institute offers undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD/MS), diploma and postdoctoral (DM/MCh) courses in various medical disciplines, such as anatomy, biochemistry, community medicine, dentistry, dermatology, ENT, forensic medicine, microbiology, orthopedics, pediatrics, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, psychiatry, radiology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, surgery and others. The admission to all the courses is based on the performance of the candidates in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The institute has an annual intake capacity of 100 MBBS students, 75 nursing students and 150 postgraduate students².
The institute has a well-equipped campus with laboratories, lecture theatres, library, cafeteria, ATM and other facilities. The institute also has a sports complex, a gymnasium and a cultural centre for the students². The institute is attached to the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GBP Hospital), which is a 1074-bedded teaching hospital that provides OPD and emergency services to the patients. The hospital has state-of-the-art amenities and facilities such as laboratories, operation theatres, intensive care units, blood bank, radiology and pharmacy. The institute also has a research unit under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which conducts various projects on health issues relevant to the region.
