NRI Institute of Medical Sciences, Visakhapatnam

NRI Institute of Medical Sciences, Visakhapatnam is a private medical college that was established in 2012 by a group of NRIs who wanted to provide quality medical education and healthcare services to the people of this region⁵. The college is affiliated to Dr YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada and offers undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD, MS, DM, MCh) courses in various medical specialties. The college has a total intake of 200 seats for MBBS and 107 seats for PG courses².

The college is located in Sangivalasa, Bheemunipatnam, which is about 125 km north of Visakhapatnam. The college has a sprawling campus surrounded by greenery and has eight buildings, including the college building, the hospital building, the hostel building, the auditorium, the library, the cafeteria, the sports complex and the administrative block¹. The college has a well-equipped library with more than 10,000 books and journals, a digital library with internet access, and an e-learning centre². The college also has a state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity of 750 people, where various academic and cultural events are conducted².

The college has a 750-bedded multi-specialty hospital with modern facilities and equipment. The hospital provides round-the-clock emergency services, intensive care units, blood bank, dialysis unit, radiology department, pathology department, pharmacy and ambulance services². The hospital also has specialty departments such as cardiology, neurology, nephrology, gastroenterology, urology, plastic surgery, paediatric surgery, neurosurgery and vascular surgery². The hospital caters to the needs of the rural and urban population of Bheemunipatnam and Visakhapatnam districts and also conducts various outreach programs and health camps¹.

The college has a dedicated and experienced faculty of 287 members, who are well-qualified and trained in their respective fields. The faculty members are involved in teaching, research and patient care activities. The college follows the curriculum prescribed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Dr YSR University of Health Sciences. The college also conducts regular seminars, workshops, guest lectures, conferences and CME programs for the students and faculty².

The college has separate hostels for boys and girls with comfortable rooms and amenities. The hostels have mess facilities that provide hygienic and nutritious food to the students. The hostels also have recreational facilities such as TV room, gymnasium, indoor games and outdoor games. The college has a sports complex that includes a cricket ground, a football ground, a basketball court, a volleyball court and a badminton court. The college encourages the students to participate in various sports and cultural activities at the inter-college and state level².

The college has an active alumni association that maintains a network of alumni across the world. The alumni association organizes various events and programs for the benefit of the students and the college. The alumni association also provides guidance and mentorship to the students for their career development.
