MANIPAL TATA MEDICAL COLLEGE (MTMC) is a private medical college and hospital located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. It was established in 2020 by a consortium initiative between Tata Steel and Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), which is a deemed to be university and an Institution of Eminence (IOE) recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India¹. The college is the first private-private partnership in the country that has been created in accordance with the Amendment Gazette Notification by the Medical Council of India (MCI) to enhance the participation of the private sector in increasing the number of medical colleges in the country².
MTMC offers an undergraduate course in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with an intake capacity of 150 students per year. The duration of the course is four and a half years followed by a compulsory one-year rotating internship. The admission to the MBBS course is based on the merit rank obtained in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA)³.
MTMC is affiliated with MAHE and approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) formerly known as MCI. The college has a well-equipped campus with modern facilities such as lecture halls, laboratories, library, auditorium, hostel, mess, sports complex, gymnasium, and transport. The college also has a 500-bedded multi-specialty hospital attached to it, which provides clinical training and exposure to the students as well as serves the health care needs of the rural population⁴.
MTMC aims to impart quality medical education and training to the aspiring doctors and to produce competent and compassionate professionals who can contribute to the advancement of medical science and health care. The college has a dedicated and experienced faculty who guide and mentor the students throughout their academic journey. The college also organizes various academic and extracurricular activities such as seminars, workshops, conferences, cultural events, sports meets, and social service camps to enhance the overall development of the students.
