Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) is a public state university in Mumbai, India. It is one of the most prestigious and oldest institutions in the country, dedicated to education, research and industrial collaboration in chemical engineering, chemical technology, applied chemistry, pharmacy, biotechnology and bio-processing.
ICT was established in 1933 as the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT) of the University of Bombay (now Mumbai), with the support of multiple industries. It was granted autonomy by the University of Mumbai in 1985, and became a deemed-to-be-university by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in 2008.
ICT offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in various disciplines of chemical sciences and engineering. The admission to these programs is based on national or state level entrance exams such as JEE Main, MHT-CET, GATE, GPAT, etc. ICT has a well-qualified and experienced faculty who are experts in their respective fields and use innovative teaching methods and tools. ICT also has state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities such as spacious classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, digital library, computer center, auditorium, sports complex, hostel, cafeteria, etc.
ICT has a strong industry-institute interaction and provides students with various opportunities for learning and development. ICT has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with several national and international universities and organizations for academic collaboration and student exchange programs. ICT also organizes various events and activities such as workshops, seminars, guest lectures, industrial visits, internships, projects, competitions, cultural and sports festivals, etc. ICT also has an active placement cell that helps students in getting placed in reputed companies such as Reliance Industries, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Chemicals, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, etc.
ICT is ranked among the top engineering and pharmacy colleges in India by various surveys and magazines. According to NIRF 2023, ICT is ranked 5th in Pharmacy, 24th in Engineering, 23rd in University and 41st in Overall categories¹. ICT has also received several awards and recognitions such as Education Leadership Award, Outstanding Education Institute (West) Award, etc.
