Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

IIT Roorkee, or the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, is a public engineering institution located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. It was established in the year 1847 as the Thomason College of Civil Engineering and was later upgraded to the University of Roorkee in 1949. In 2001, the university was declared an Indian Institute of Technology and was renamed as IIT Roorkee.

IIT Roorkee is considered to be one of the oldest and most prestigious technical institutions in India. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various fields of engineering, technology, science, and management. The institute has 21 academic departments, 3 centers of excellence, and 3 academic centers.

The campus of IIT Roorkee is spread over 365 acres and is located on the banks of the Ganges. It has a range of facilities for students, including hostels, sports complexes, libraries, and a student activity center. The institute also has collaborations with several international universities and research institutions.
