Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) is a group of educational institutions that offer courses in engineering, science, management, pharmacy, and other disciplines. The main campus of BIT is located in Mesra, Ranchi, in the state of Jharkhand, India. It was established in 1955 by the industrialist B. M. Birla, who envisioned it as a centre of excellence for higher education and research. BIT has been granted the status of a deemed university by the Government of India, which allows it to design its own curriculum and award degrees.

BIT has several other campuses in India and abroad, such as Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Noida, Deoghar, Patna, Kolkata, Muscat, Ras al-Khaimah, and Dubai. Each campus offers different programmes and facilities to cater to the needs of the students and the industry. BIT also has collaborations with various national and international organizations, such as ISRO, DRDO, CSIR, IBM, Microsoft, Intel, etc., for research and consultancy projects.

BIT offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in various fields of engineering and technology, such as computer science, electronics, mechanical, civil, chemical, biotechnology, etc. It also offers programmes in applied sciences, such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, etc., as well as management and pharmacy. The admission to these programmes is based on entrance tests conducted by BIT or other agencies. Some of the popular entrance tests are BITSAT (for BITS Pilani campuses), JEE Main (for BIT Mesra and other campuses), GATE (for M.Tech programmes), CAT/XAT/GMAT (for MBA programmes), etc.
