Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) is a public medical college and hospital in Guwahati, Assam. It was established in 1960 as the second medical college in Assam after Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh¹². The college is affiliated to Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS) and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC)²⁴.

The college offers undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD/MS), diploma and postdoctoral (DM/MCh) courses in various medical disciplines, such as anatomy, biochemistry, community medicine, dentistry, dermatology, ENT, forensic medicine, microbiology, orthopedics, pediatrics, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, psychiatry, radiology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, surgery and others²³. The admission to the college is based on the performance of the candidates in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for all the courses²³. The college has an annual intake capacity of 200 MBBS students, 75 nursing students and 150 postgraduate students².

The college has a well-equipped campus with laboratories, lecture theatres, library, cafeteria, ATM and other facilities. The college also has a sports complex, a gymnasium and a cultural centre for the students². The college is attached to the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, which is a 2185-bedded teaching hospital that provides OPD and emergency services to the patients. The hospital has state-of-the-art amenities and facilities, such as laboratories, operation theatres, intensive care units, blood bank, radiology, pharmacy etc²³. The college also has a research unit under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which conducts various projects on health issues relevant to the region².
