Aarupadai Veedu Medical College

Aarupadai Veedu Medical College (AVMC) is a private medical college and hospital located in Kirumampakkam, Puducherry. It was established in the year 2000 by the Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal Medical Educational and Charitable Trust, which is inspired by the vision and teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother¹. The college is affiliated with Vinayaka Missions University, Salem, Tamil Nadu, and approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) formerly known as Medical Council of India (MCI)².

AVMC offers an undergraduate course in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with an intake capacity of 150 students per year. The duration of the course is four and a half years followed by a compulsory one-year rotating internship. The admission to the MBBS course is based on the merit rank obtained in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA)³.

AVMC also offers postgraduate courses in Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS) in 19 specializations such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, General Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Respiratory Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Anesthesiology. The admission to the MD and MS courses is based on the merit rank obtained in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-PG) conducted by the NTA³.

AVMC has a sprawling campus with state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities such as lecture halls, laboratories, library, auditorium, hostel, mess, sports complex, gymnasium, and transport. The campus also has a 750-bedded multi-specialty hospital attached to it, which provides clinical training and exposure to the students as well as serves the health care needs of the rural population⁴. The hospital has modern diagnostic and treatment facilities such as 40 Slice multi detector whole body CT Scan, 1.5 tesla MRI Machine, DSA & Mammography Unit along with other Hi-tech investigations facilities. The hospital also has an eye bank and a blood bank with component separation unit⁵.

AVMC aims to impart quality medical education and training to the aspiring doctors and to produce competent and compassionate professionals who can contribute to the advancement of medical science and health care. The college has a dedicated and experienced faculty who guide and mentor the students throughout their academic journey. The college also organizes various academic and extracurricular activities such as seminars, workshops, conferences, cultural events, sports meets, and social service camps to enhance the overall development of the students.
